St Mary's Catholic Primary School is one of two Catholic primary schools in Poole, not far from the town centre. We are a friendly, welcoming school. St Mary's is in the Diocese of Plymouth and is part of Plymouth CAST multi academy trust – a partnership of schools across Dorset, Devon and Cornwall.
We are a 2 form entry school. At 4 years old, our children start in Reception (sometimes referred to as Foundation Stage or EYFS), and go through Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) to Key Stage 2 up to Year 6, ready for transfer to secondary school at age 11.
St Mary’s has a history dating back to 1850. Since 1967, the school has been situated at its current site in Devon Road and has grown to become the two form entry primary school that it is today. The school caters for 420 children aged between 4 and 11 years old, offering a broad and balanced curriculum. Our aim is to enable our children to develop fully, gaining a rich educational experience in a happy and caring environment.
We also work closely with St Edwards RC/CofE Comprehensive Secondary School. With them, we offer the benefit of a Catholic Church School, which will be best achieved through the shared religious commitment of parents, parish and school community. The School serves the parishes of St Mary’s and St Anthony’s.
Our facilities include:
Large playgrounds with separate areas for younger and older children
A forest area with woodland paths
A sports hall with facilities for gym and the performing arts
A School Chapel
Two libraries
A large computer suite
Class laptops and tablets for the children to use
Two minibuses
Astroturf sports field
Ample outdoor space for peace and reflection, including a sensory garden.
Many of our children move on to our feeder school, St Edwards RC/CE VA School (secondary school), normally transferring into Year 7 at age 11.
